Summary

The Museum Docent is expected to work at the Tribal museum and library. Professional interaction with the public as they tour the museum and utilize the library.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following, other duties may be assigned.

  • Staff the museum and library during assigned business hours.
  • Provide interpretive and historical perspectives regarding displays and the history and culture of the Shoalwater Bay Indian Tribe.
  • Maintain exhibits and displays including careful cleaning and dusting.   
  • Assist library patrons in using the library. 
  • Assure that both the museum and the library are picked up, neat and orderly at the end of each shift.
  • Keep a record of visitors.   
  • Opening and closing the museum and library.
  • Provide Assistance as needed for larger events
  • Assist with acquiring supplies as needed for museum and library events
  • Assists and supports with exhibition installation and changeovers as needed
  • Works collaboratively with Cultural Department and supports as needed
  • Complies with educational materials and guidelines provided by the Cultural Department, and participates in regular reviews with Cultural staff
  • Willingness to research and learn vocabulary in Chinuk Wawa and Thlawaltmish

Experience and Eduction

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; or two to three years related experience and/or training working in an information center; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Knowledge and understanding of Shoalwater Bay Indian Tribe history is preferred. Willing to attend training and events as needed.

Skills

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Basic mathematical skills; addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals and fractions.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Valid driver’s license required and willing to drive when needed for work errands.
