Summary
The Shoalwater Bay Behavioral Health Program provides services to people of all ages in the Shoalwater Bay community, and Natives and non-natives in the vicinity. The Youth and Family Mental Health Professional provides counseling and crisis intervention services to children, adolescents, and families in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and with Behavioral Health policies and procedures. Certified Peer Counselors share lived experiences with individuals seeking healing from substance use and mental health disorders. They help people to create their own recovery plans and develop their own healing pathways. These services are provided using appropriate individual counseling, including but not limited to couples and family therapy, group counseling, educational classes, and case management.
Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned.
- Coordinates, and manages an ongoing caseload of 30-35 clients.
- Provides individual, couples, family and group counseling, intake and assessment, diagnosis, crisis intervention, and follow up services.
- Administer and interpret tests and measures of psychosocial functioning.
- Develops treatment interventions and associated recommendations for clients in addition to providing active case management.
- Promotes culturally relevant client care and treatment.
- Utilizes evidenced based practices such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, MI, and other specialized applications to support client identified goals which promote overall stabilization of disorders and resolution of trauma Anxiety and/or Depression.
- Provides tools for regulating emotions, relationship building, social emotional skills and executive function development.
- Participates in staff meetings, consultations, case presentations and training programs.
- Provides educational services (i.e., parenting classes, skill-building classes) as well as community and school trainings and presentations.
- Maintains client progress and provides outreach and advocacy to help people attain their highest degree of health and independence.
- Provides ongoing outreach to children, youth, parents, schools, and communities to ensure awareness of community needs and service availability.
- Develops and maintains positive relations with community referral sources.
- Advocates and facilitates the delivery of medical/psychiatric, cared coordination, housing, employment, and educational services.
- Assists with facilitating client disability applications, developmental and psychological assessment and/or referral for vocational services. Develop and maintain cooperative, constructive relationships with families of clients.
- Works to ensure current and accurate documentation of care is provided to individual clients or those participating in group settings as is appropriate for both compliance with related regulations, WAC codes, RCWs and Shoalwater Bay policies and procedures.
- Provides necessary agency and program statistical information and information necessary for program/services evaluation.
- Maintains case records in an accurate and timely manner; develops and maintains current crisis plan.
- Meets with clinical supervisor on a regular basis and attends required meetings, consultations, and trainings.
- Actively collaborates with other integrated health care staff for optimal client health while also referring for additional psychiatric, medical, dental, specialty services as pertinent to client needs.
- Provides telemedicine/telehealth from other secure locations which prescribes to accepted standardized guidelines as dictated for privacy and confidentiality of patient care. (as necessary)
- Participates in the Tribe’s quality improvement and planning activities as necessary.
- Works cooperatively with the Health Director, Wellness Center Staff.
- Observes strict patient confidentiality, and all pertinent requirements of HIPAA and any other confidentiality regulations.
- Performs any additional reasonable roles and responsibilities as determined necessary by the Health Director.
Certified Peer Counselor Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Certified Peer Counselor engages, inspires, and facilitates meaningful conversations assisting individuals to explore, create, and meet their own recovery goals.
- Provides peer counseling to individuals and their families.
- Provide case management, ensuring effective communication with those involved in the recovery healing process, including school administrators, law enforcement, attorneys, etc.
- Facilitate support groups, workshops and education classes focused on recovery on various topics.
- Build awareness of recovery in the community through education and related community events.
- Help identify new and existing resources for our members.
- Facilitate communication between individuals in recovery healing process and other healthcare and support professionals.
- Coordinate with outside recovery support services.
Supervisory Requirements
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications

Experience and Eduction
American Indian/Alaskan Native preference.
- Master’s of Arts in Applied Psychology or Master’s Degree in Social Services field or related field (Psychology, Mental Health Counseling).
- Meet all conditions of Washington State Mental Health professional license.
- Must hold or obtain within 6 months of employment a Washington State approved Certified Peer Counselor certificate.
- Experience working with neuro-diverse children and youth.
- Experience in working with youth, adolescents, and families.
- Experience in leading groups, trainings, and workshops.
- Experience working with diversified, ethnic/cultural populations.
- Ability to pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen.
- Maintains current CPR certification.
Must keep up to date certification CEU’s to provide services to clients.
Skills
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of treatment approaches for individuals with special needs, neurodiversity, and family counseling and support, crisis intervention and brief therapy. Strong knowledge or therapeutic orientation of evidenced based practices, notably trauma related approaches.
- Knowledge of group process.
- Ability to develop and monitor goal-directed treatment relationships.
- Knowledge of treatment approaches for clients, and the ability to work with clients experiencing substance use and mental health related issues.
- Ability to develop community resources and market services.
- Ability to continue training through the Bridge training program to become a Certified Peer Counselor.
- Must demonstrate sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences.

- Demonstrates knowledge of CDC, Dept. of Health, OSHA standard as it applies to the clinic environment.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations
Must hold or obtain, either an LMHC-A, LMHC, LMFT, and Certified Peer Counselor certificate.
