Summary

Administers diagnostic assessments and associated therapy to individuals and identified family members with both mental health and/or substance use disorders. Treatment planning, case management and associated referrals will be facilitated utilizing collaborative interactions with both the integrated health staff within the clinic setting, and with other outside entities. Utilizes knowledge of tribal culture and traditional medicine to include holistic practices along with evidenced based western therapeutic applications for addressing complex case presentations. Works directly with psychiatric medication providers for optimal client stabilization. Provides clinical supervision and training when requested for other agency staff.

Job Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following, Other duties may be assigned.

  • Conduct initial assessment and diagnostic summaries for initial appraisal of client needs.
  • Administers and interprets tests and measures of psychosocial functioning.
  • Develops treatment interventions and associated recommendations for clients in addition to providing active case management.
  • Perform crisis interventions, as needed.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative, constructive relationships with families of clients.
  • Utilizes evidenced based practices such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, MI, and other specialized applications to support client identified goals which promote overall stabilization of disorders and resolution of trauma.
  • Offers psychoeducation, in addition to facilitating skills acquisition and better quality of living for those with complex behavioral disorders.
  • Actively collaborates with other integrated health care staff for optimal client health while also referring for additional psychiatric, medical, dental, specialty services as pertinent to client needs.
  • Promotes culturally relevant client care and treatment.
  • Provides telemedicine/telehealth from other secure locations which prescribes to accepted standardized guidelines as dictated for privacy and confidentiality of patient care.
  • Works with area educational, school, law enforcement, and court personnel to increase awareness of local service availability to both children, youth, adults and families.
  • Actively collaborates with other behavioral health staff, tribal community, county & state partners in developing and offering educational and prevention-based trainings, presentations and lectures which promote agency objectives.
  • Assists with facilitating client disability applications, developmental and psychological assessment and/or referral for vocational services.
  • May provide clinical supervision to other agency professionals with a focus on administrative, evaluative, and clinical processes which ultimately supports both the individual clinician’s dedication and attention to the provision of quality of care with clients. This support reflects overarching agency goals and helps shape agency culture while attending to both ethical considerations and diversity factors.
  • May review mental health or substance use disorder files to ensure evidence based and quality care is provided.
  • Works to ensure current and accurate documentation of care is provided to individual clients or those participating in group settings as is appropriate for both compliance with related regulations, WAC codes, RCWs and Shoalwater Bay policies and procedures.
  • Recognizes supervision is key to both quality improvement and the successful implementation of consensus and evidence-based practices.
  • Seeks ongoing training and knowledge to extend practice specialties.
  • Actively participates in the recruitment and selection of behavioral health staff with clinic administrators.
  • Routinely works to identify and addresses agency deficits and identifies areas of risk management with clinic administrators.
  • Seeks ongoing clinical consultation to reduce agency malpractice liability and to routinely increase professional standards of practice.
  • Works collaboratively with agency staff and administration regarding program development.
  • May attend local, state, Tribal and other national meetings as an agency representative and recognizes and reflects this role accordingly with direction from administration.
  • Maintains current, active, valid, unrestricted Washington State licensure and CEU’s as necessary.
  • Maintains current CPR certification.
  • Participates in the Tribe’s quality improvement and planning activities as necessary.
  • Works cooperatively with the Health Director, Wellness Center Staff.
  • Observes strict patient confidentiality, and all pertinent requirements of HIPAA and any other confidentiality regulations.
  • Performs any additional reasonable roles and responsibilities as determined necessary by the Health Director.
Safety:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of CDC, Dept. of Health, OSHA standard as it applies to the clinic environment.
  • Adheres to universal precautions.

Supervisory Requirements

This position may hold supervisory duties based on program needs. Clinician should hold active certification/credentialing/education level commensurate to offering clinical supervision if necessary. 

Qualifications

Experience and Eduction

Master’s degree (MSW, MA, or MS) in social work, psychology, or other related human service field. associated field. Ten years experience in Mental Health Counseling and extensive case management. College coursework reflecting knowledge of the treatment and provision of care for substance use/affiliated disorders.  History of work in Tribal communities preferred.

Skills

LANGUAGE SKILLS:  Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.   Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Basic mathematical skills; addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals and fractions.

 

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

State of Washington Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW or LICSW,) is preferred or master’s level Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. May consider LMHC or LMFT for position. Washington State Licensed Substance Use Disorder Professional.
