The nutrition and diabetes education departments strive to empower individuals in their health by providing education that takes into consideration their unique needs and experiences. The program especially focuses on providing culturally relevant education to American Indians and Alaska Natives and community members in the Tokeland area.

Mission

The vision of the nutrition and diabetes education departments is to see individuals of this community achieve wellness through promotion of healthy lifestyles while preserving culture, traditions, and values.

Services

We provide:

  • Comprehensive diet and lifestyle assessment for referred patients
  • Personalized education and support
  • Nutrition lectures and food demonstrations with a focus on more traditional food choices
  • Individual and group food preparation education
  • Collaboration with other tribal programs to help bring healthy food choices at gatherings
  • Insulin instruction
  • Glucose meter instruction
  • Diabetes Self-management education
  • Diabetes foot care
