Summary

The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and provide preventive care to individuals and families across the lifespan. May refer patients to specialists when needed for further diagnosis or treatment. The Provider works to provide a wide range of primary care services which encompasses health promotion, injury and illness prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of commonly encountered health problems and injuries. Monitoring of stable but often complicated chronic health problems. Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.

Hours: 4/10’s (40 hours per week in conjunction with another provider.)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide services according to Washington State ARNP practice and licensure.
  • Interviews and examines patients, reviews history, and completes examination necessary to obtain all necessary information related to each patient case.
  • Makes diagnoses, directs, prescribes, and provides treatment, and/or arranges for specialized care through Tribe’s referral process.
  • Provides definitive management of all medical cases not requiring referral and monitors all cases referred for specialized care.
  • Works collaboratively with the PCR specialist and Health Director as needed for Tribal specialty referrals.
  • Analyzes reports and findings of tests and of examination, and diagnoses condition.
  • Administers or prescribes treatments and drugs.
  • Inoculates and vaccinates patients to immunize patients from communicable diseases.
  • Advises patients concerning diet, hygiene, and methods for prevention of disease.
  • May provide initial prenatal care to pregnant women and may provide limited postnatal care to mother and infant.
    • Refer out to OB/Gyn for specialty care.
  • Reports births, deaths, and outbreak of contagious diseases to governmental authorities.
  • Documentation of electronic medical records on all patients seen.  Assures the accumulation and organization of this information is accurate and timely to provide comprehensive medical care.
  • Bases decisions on information obtained through professional medical knowledge and skills, current accepted standards of care, and approved policies and procedures.  Makes notes and charts observations in individual patient medical records.
  • Provides emergency medical care as needed or requested.
  • Performs minor surgical procedures as necessary.
  • Makes house and emergency calls to attend to patients unable to visit office of clinic as necessary and within the scope of the Wellness Center capabilities.
    • Ambulance may be required due to clinics capabilities.
  • Conducts physical examinations to provide information needed for admission to school, consideration for jobs, or eligibility for insurance coverage.
  • Modifies treatment regimens in the best interest of patients, makes observations and develops treatment plans appropriate to the patient’s underlying disease and current symptoms.
  • Refers patients to other medical facilities for care or procedures beyond the capabilities of the Tribes Wellness Center.  Provides all information necessary to ensure appropriate continuity of care.
  • Cooperatively administer fill-in care to all patients in conjunction with other clinic providers.  Provider will see patients for appointments, assess and treat their medical needs and refill prescriptions in the absence of a patients’ primary care provider.  Information regarding care will be clearly documented the current electronic health record for PCP to review for continuity of care.
  • Supervises the clinical performance of medical staff personnel.
  • Completes required reports and prepares all required information necessary for billing.
  • Works cooperatively with the Health Director, other providers and staff personnel, as well as any other funding programs that are available to the Tribe’s Wellness Center.
  • Performs any additional reasonable roles and responsibilities as determined necessary by the Health Director.
  • Provides sponsorship/practice oversight for the Health Certified Assistant and/or Medical Assistant(s). (if applicable).
  • Will provide care within the current standards of care pertinent to Washington State law, and the Tribe’s Self Governance Compact with IHS (Indian Health Services), for purposes of Federal Tort Claims Act coverage.
  • Provides shared on call responsibilities with other employed providers.
  • Maintains current, active, valid, unrestricted Washington State licensure and CEU’s as necessary.
  • Maintains current CPR certification.
  • Participates in the Tribe’s quality improvement and medical planning activities as necessary.
SPIPA Woman’s Wellness program:
  • Member of Medical Advisory Board
  • Provide, participate, and collaborate with Women’s Wellness program.
    • Screening for:
    • Breast Cancer (Mammography), Cervical Cancer (Pap Smears/STD checks), Lung Cancer, Colon Cancer.
  • Patient education concerning Women’s Health including but not limited to:
    • Birth control, HPV, STD/STI’s, Smoking Cessation.
  • Observes strict patient confidentiality, and all pertinent requirements of HIPAA and any other confidentiality regulations.
  • Performs any additional reasonable roles and responsibilities as determined necessary by the Health Director.

Supervisory Requirements

Supervises the clinical performance of medical staff personnel.

Works cooperatively with the Health Director, other providers and staff personnel, as well as any other funding programs that are available to the Tribe’s Wellness Center.

Equivalent experience will not be accepted in place of required education.

Certificates, Licenses and Registrations

Maintains current CPR certification.

Maintains current, active, valid, unrestricted Washington State licensure and CEU’s as necessary.
